I woke up at 5AM to the sound of rain banging on all the surfaces of the world outside my bedroom. I woke up from a really strange dream that kept me up for a little while. For some reason I dreamt about my childhood, and specifically my friend Coby and her family. I think it's been the books that I've been reading seeping into my subconscious thoughts.

In my dream, I was a little boy again walking with Coby through her house passing by posters of Hellraiser that her cool as hell dad put up. We went outside and played in the cement playground and nothing else mattered but what was happening at that moment. I sat up in bed, turned off the AC and hoped that the sound of the rain would instead ease my tossing and turning.

I was finishing up my work for the day and sending out some faxes for student loan bullshit when my coworker's singing started to get louder. Nobody was around and I reluctantly started this conversation, for privacy purposes I'll name this coworker Matt:

Me:  Matt...I dont know if it's a conscious thing....but your singing is distracting.
Matt: Oh, I'm sorry it's kind of a nervous thing.
Me: What are you nervous about??

I feel kind of bad, his eyes were a little red before he quickly left. : /

The New York heat wave situation is wearing me down. I've been doing a lot of outdoor activities during the day, and at night the only thing I have energy to do at night is shower and go to bed. Thursday, a bunch of friends and I went to Anytime and bumped into this kid Alfredo whom we met a few months ago at Willie's house party. Friday I went to see the Dark Knight with phil and amanda [was really good, and not sad]. After the movie, Goldie met us and we hit up my roommate's bf's dj party in the East Village followed by Williamsburg bar hopping --my crush Judson was there [and of course Phil gave me hell :) ].

Saturday, Katrina and I met my coworker Kim and her boyfriend off the last stop on the L and rode with them to the Ferry for Fire Island. My boss was throwing the annual beach house party out there and we definitely took advantage of that. We had a really great time! I got back to my apt around 12-1 AM and could not stay up any longer. The next day my cousin, Jamie and I went to the Diplo + Santogold concert in Central Park. While walking through the park to Rumsey Playfield I SPOTTED DAVE GROHL from the Foo Fighters!  We had been splashing around various sprinklers and squirting each other with water guns, so I didn't stop and scare him...was so tempted to I mean its freakin Dave Grohl!

When we got to Rumsey Playfield, the line was ridiculously long and uninviting...BUT we spotted Alfredo AGAIN [twice in one weekend, wtf] and he let us cut. It was so extremely hot in NYC this past weekend and the concert was PACKED. Jamie and Phil did not want to make their way up to the front but I succeeded in getting right up to the barricades. All of the performers were fantastic, and of course Santogold was awesome! Santo and I shared a few moments when she saw me in the front singing along and dancing. She smiled and pointed at me like twice...was GREAT. We went home and watched the horrible Resident Evil Extinction, and I passed out before 12 while trying to watch Methadonia. I woke up at 9 [LATE] and got to work on time, phew.

The new project manager started today and after I suggested that all three current project managers train him [I want to see how much scott knows] Mike set that up. I'm hoping this week goes quick and smoothly. I'm going to take a sick day or two this week...I have not taken one AT ALL in a year. In other related work news, I'm finally going to tell my singing coworker this week that he needs to be conscious about his singing and that it's distracting. Pics to come shortly.

My New Obsession

I'll admit I'm a bit of a music snob...but I can also admit that I am late to jump on this one. The fierce bitch in the middle [next to Dan of Does it Offend You, Yeah? and Andrew of MGMT] is Eleanor Friedberger of the Fiery Furnaces. I finally looked her up after seeing her in the Converse campaign and now I am obsessed.

Apparently The Fiery Furnaces is composed of a brother-sister duo [hopefully we won't find out later that they're actually married a la White Stripes] formed in Brooklyn but originally from Illinois, their first CD was released in 2003. Check out their Myspace. Their music is awesome, I love a girl who can rock out on a guitar...so sexy!

let your feelings slip boy, but never your mask boy
Life has been okay lately. Okay. Not great, not bad...just kinda level and alright. As mentioned before, we got our raises and now we're hiring a new guy in my department because Frank [who has been doing project management the longest] is moving to another department. Tonight both of my bosses are taking Frank, Scott [newest guy] and I out to dinner...a rarity. I'm curious to find out what news they'll drop on us.

I went upstate to see family this past weekend and that basically consisted of me getting a tattoo [yay!], my sister and I spending time in the kitchen [becoming a ritual] preparing dishes and Sangria while my brother bbq's. On Sunday, my sister and mother joined Phillipe and I on the bus back to the city. My mother had a 7AM flight on Monday morning out of JFK and reluctantly asked to sleep over a few weeks ago [I'm 25 minutes from the airport by car.] My sister wanted to see the Bodies exhibit, so her and Phil did that while my mother and I sat on the South Street Seaport eating ice cream, talking, and looking at the Four Waterfalls along the Hudson River.  I was really tired and irritable throughout dinner at JP Mustards, but we all had a really nice time.

My mother and I did some grocery shopping and then went back to my place, she showered, got settled and we popped in Juno [the only remotely mother-friendly DVD I own], but she fell asleep instantaneously. I felt like such an adult hosting my mother at my apartment, which was neat and clean and comfortable for her arrival. I tucked her in at 10, turned on the AC and went back to my living room to watch Valley of the Dolls [it was talked about a lot in Mississippi Sissy.] We slept at opposite sides of my queen sized bed bundled up in AC until 5AM struck when we had to get ready to head to the airport.

At the airport she made a comment like "how do you live like this," not in a judgmental way but just commenting on how hectic everything was while I was running errands, it was the credit I've long deserved. I was kinda sad to send her off [she'll be back in 3 weeks]. I texted my sister later "This is lame...but I miss mom." She wrote back "Me too."

EDIT: Dinner rescheduled for next week, hair appointment at Hair Metal tonight still on!

I JUST finished reading this book, it's really good but it's put me in such a melancholy state. I'm in my air conditioned bedroom listening to Mazzy Star. I just want to give Kevin Sessums a big hug.  Going Upstate for the weekend with Phillippe. Everyone have a great holiday weekend

I went out everyday from Wednesday night up until yesterday. I went to Home Sweet Home on Thursday, and on Friday went to Cold War Kids with Amanda S. and some others then to Coco66. This chick I met from facebook went to both places but it was kind of strange...she wasn't as cool as I thought she was. From there, we left Amanda with some British guy she met and went with Ryan to Metropolitan and Alligator Lounge. Saturday Phil, Ashley and I hung out at the apt until like 11ish and watched The Eye [horrid], Definitely Maybe [sweet], and Tart [good].

We decided to go to Galapagos because Nicky Digital was going to be there [Phil is an admitted scenester camera whore], when money was low we went to Anytime for their $3 drinks and then back to Galapagos. It was a lot of fun, the music was great and the crowd was fun. Sunday, we were miserably hung over and ordered Thai food, caught a few minutes of the Gay Pride Parade, then went to go see Wanted. Guns, hotties, cars, tattoos how can you go wrong. I miss the badass Angelina, her media-whoreness made me despise her.

At some point over the weekend my debit cards were either stolen or I just misplaced them. I have absolutely no $$ on me for lunch or anything which is such a bitch. I'm supposed to go to Six Flags on Wednesday so I have to figure something out :( Thursday after Phillipe gets out of work, we're going upstate and staying there for the weekend. We haven't really been arguing and been enjoying eachother's company...It's cool.

On a side note: I'm really sick of people being flakey lately. Its not that difficult to return a damn text message or voicemail. It's like my #1 pet peeve.

How would you deal with a coworker that sings/hums ALL DAY LONG and whose cubicle is RIGHT NEXT to yours?? Most days I block it out with headphones but there are moments that I don't feel like plugging my headphones in.

The Modest Mouse secret show  late Thursday  early Friday, 2:30AM to be exact, was awesome. A friend of mine got tickets somehow and we were RIGHT up against the stage in front of Johnny freakin Marr! The lead singer, Isaac was brilliant. I love his stage antics and the way he jerks his body when hes singing. During Tiny Cities Made of Ashes he stormed in front of us and screamed into the crowd and bum rushed past me with mic in hand. He proceeded to push the crowd about and scream in peoples faces. Highlight of the show.

The Cure was amazing at MSG that night, but my body began to tremble due to lack of sleep toward the end. It was like a dream to see them live and Robert's voice was 100% on point! They played for 3 hours, 3 encores, and 35 songs, unreal. Afterward I met up with Goldie and her friend who was visiting in SoHo followed by drinks and such in her apt across the street from the bar. It was 2:30AM and they were talking about going to Williamsburg and I was all about it because it is closer to my apt. We took a cab got to Union Pool at 3AM and afterward went to this house party on Lorimer some hotties were throwing. We scratched on their turn tables and I threated to rap over their beats. I bumped into some people I knew from college and we talked a little bit...I left at 7AM [walk of shame], got in bed by 7:30AM and left a note on my door for my cousin not to wake me up! HAHA

We spent all of Saturday together and hit up the Make Music NY shows in Brooklyn, hit up some BBQ's and bars, etc. We took our drinks out of Anytime because we were ready to go and sat on a random stoop with our drinks [we thought we were being incognito]. A group of Canadians stopped and asked us if we knew were Metropolitan is, we' were actually going there so they joined. After Metro, we went to Sugarland and back into the city for 40C in Alphabet City. They said they said they approached us because we looked cool on the stoop with our drinks from the bar....guess we werent' so slick about it.

Since then I've been really really busy with work. Last night I went to the Bodega party, first stopping at this guy Matt's apt for a quickie then over to Bodega. Danger from Paris DJed and I left at 1:30AM. Tomorrow I'm going to see the Cold War Kids with Amanda from Chief Mag and then who knows after that. Things are good, extremely busy at work but at least I got my raise! I got more than anyone at my company I believe. I had to lie to one of my coworkers about  the % I got so I wouldn't feel bad. Next week I'm going to take a day off and go to Six Flags with my cousin, so looking forward to that. We're going to see Wanted this weekend and probably party it up as usual. Damn I wish it were Friday.

  • My friend got me a ticket for the SECRET MODEST MOUSE CONCERT tonight in Williamsburg...EXCITED.
  • Went to another Bodega party last night. Hung out with Dyan, Goldie, Amanda, and Katrina [new Bk BFF's].  [info]nea_to and I began discussing bands that I'd seen that night and or partied with recently...who knew I partied with rockstars??
